Historiek

De Gent Symphonic Band werd in 1978 gesticht door haar huidige dirigent Luc Van Acker onder de naam " Jeugd '78 Gent " in de Stedelijke Academie voor Muziek, Woord en Dans " Emiel Hullebroeck " uit de stad Gent naar aanleiding van de viering 150 jaar Stedelijk Onderwijs Gent.

Het orkest won meerdere eerste prijzen op provinciale, nationale en internationale wedstrijden met uitschieters op het Europees Muziekfestival van Neerpelt en het Internationaal Muziekconcours van Mechelen-Leest. Tot op dit ogenblik verzorgde het orkest zo'n 200 binnen- en buitenlandse optredens, onder meer in Soest en Solingen (Duitsland), Bach en Stanzach (Oostenrijk), Martell (Italië), Luxemburg (Groothertogdom Luxemburg), Praag (Tsjechië) en Budapest (Hongarije).

2003 was een feestjaar. " Jeugd '78 Gent " vierde haar 25-jarig jubileum en kreeg bij die gelegenheid een nieuwe naam en logo. In september werd daarom een groots festival georganiseerd.

Ghent Symphonic Band was founded in 1978, by its current conductor Luc Van Acker under the name " YOUTH '78 GHENT " in the local Ghent Academy for Music, Word and Dance " Emiel Hullebroeck ", as a result of the celebration 150 years of education by the city of Ghent.

The orchestra won several firts prices on provincial, national and international contest with exellent results on the European Musical Festival of Neerpelt ( B ) and the International Music competition of Mechelen-Leest ( B ). Up to on this moment the orchestra had more then 200 concerts in Belgium and abroad, including in Soest and Solingen ( Germany ), Bach and Stanzach ( Austria ), Martell ( Italy ), Luxemburg ( Luxemburg ), Prague ( Czechia ) and Budapest ( Hongary ).

In 2003 " Youth '78 Ghent " celebrated its 25-th year of existance. It got a new name and logo at the occasion. For this reason in september a massive festival was organised.

Today the Ghent Symphonic Band brings together approximately 80 musicians of all ages, still under the expert control of Luc Van Acker.
